Potomac Riverside envisions the creation of a new model community that follows, as its inspiration, three important trends in urban design and planning: sustainability, transit-oriented and amenity-rich walkable environment. From the sustainable design movement, Potomac Riverside will seek to make a minimal impact on the land by reserving over 50% of its land area to parks, open space, environmental areas and wildlife habitat. Development will be concentrated in three lively village centers and one vibrant Town Center, each having a unique character.
The Town Center, with its development focused on the proposed VRE station, will be an example of the best in transit-oriented design. In no case will any resident be more than a one-mile walk from essential goods and services or from recreation, open space or natural areas.
Potomac Riverside will be a unique community which combines the advantages of the walkable village and town centers advocated by Traditional Neighborhood Design with considerable natural amenities for all workers and residents. This, in turn, will set the stage for the creation of a vibrant urban environment where the commitment is to achieving design excellence.
