Fairfax County Public Schools Adult and Community Educational Program Facility
DCS Design recently completed the interior architecture of Fairfax County Public School’s (“FCPS”) newly relocated Adult and Community Educational Program Facility. The goal of the 33,170 square-foot relocation was combining FCPS’ adult and community educational programs into a single location to accommodate the county’s extensive program offerings.
Inspired by FCPS’s colorful branding, lounge chairs provide ample seating while the tagline, “Engage, Inspire, Thrive,” adorn the walls of the main reception area, welcoming staff and first-time visitors to the facility. In addition to the main reception area, a separate student lobby was created, providing a convenient access point from the parking lot to the 30 brand-new classrooms.
Upon entering the secondary entrance, students are welcomed by a bright, energetic reception area, featuring abundant natural light from the large, open skylights above. The inviting brightness continues through the glass-front admin offices, visually expanding the space to create an open feel. Mirroring FCPS’ mission of inspiring and empowering students to meet high academic standards, the facility integrates colorful branding with decorative inspirational quotes and convenient seating located near the entrance.
Centrally located in the facility is a vibrant and versatile student lounge featuring a variety of seating options enhancing both the comfort and functionality of the space. Both the student and staff lounges are strategically placed along the window line of the courtyard to provide natural light and views.
Ensuring that all classrooms are tailored specifically for the efficacy of each program was a top priority in the design process. Diversity of room sizes, movable wall partitions, and integrated technology create a comfortable, collaborative, and flexible environment in all classrooms, nurturing an ideal learning atmosphere for all students.
