Terraset Elementary School, Reston, VA
Terraset (Terraset literally meaning "Set-in-Terra"), a 990-student elementary school, was designed in 1975 for an open plan program concept, and conceived as a completely energy conservative building. The structure, located in Reston Virginia, utilizes earth-cover, a sophisticated heat reclamation mechanical system, and passive and active solar energy to heat and cool the building. Since its completion, Terraset Elementary School has been awarded the , The 197, and The Today, the matured landscaping over the school's roof and around the building creates an even more appealing learning environment, and beautifully augments the surrounding, rolling landscape of Virginia.
