Fair Lakes I, Fairfax, VA
Davis, Carter, Scott developed the master plan for this 650-acre mixed-use site, and has designed several buildings within the development. The first office building on the site, Fair Lakes I, was designed and built for Hazel/Peterson Companies as their headquarters in 1987. Designated as the “flagship” building for the development, the facility was also designed for shared tenant space. To enhance the site environment, the building was situated so that trees were preserved on all sides of the building, and exterior materials were selected to accentuate the wooded setting. The design, in conjunction with the reflective surfaces, allows the building to “disappear” into the surrounding wooded area. Cantilevering 26’ over the lake, the building is shaped like a chevron, with the point facing away from the 4-1/2 acre lake. In 2005 DCS provided exterior renovation, main entry improvements, HVAC upgrades and site improvements to the original 1987 structure.
