Close Up Foundation, Alexandria, VA
The design concept is based on Close Up Foundation’s mission to educate and inspire young people to become informed and engaged citizens. Close Up had been in their prior space for over 20 years. In addition to being aesthetically and functionally outdated, the space did not reflect the organization’s brand. The most important design goal was creating 360 degree branding, from the reception area through the work space. The concept was approached in a macro-to-micro fashion, beginning with large concepts of organizational culture including instruction, inspiration and communication, to specifically creating a “branding screen” chronicling the organization’s 40 years of educational efforts. The design team worked closely with Close Up to identify various work practices within the organization, and then developed workplace strategies for those groups which were translated into appropriate work spaces.
